Priorities for Post-Secondary Education

 

Accessibility and Affordability

  • Targeting financial aid towards those that need it most in the form of non-repayable grants for low and middle income students

  • Increasing investments in scholarships, bursaries, and non-academic awards

  • Increasing the Repayment Assistance Program (RAP) threshold to match increases in minimum wage

Transparency and Accountability

  • Requiring a two-thirds majority for those present and voting on any motion at the Board of Governors pertaining to tuition and fee changes

  • Ensuring that universities are transparent and accountable for both academic and non-academic fees

  • Meaningful student consultation and inclusion at every level of the decision-making process

Student Wellness and Mental Health

  • Long-term commitment and investment for on-campus mental health services

  • Allocating funding to institutions on a per-student basis

  • Ensuring student consultation throughout the decision-making process

Quality Infrastructure & Environments

  • Continued, predictable increases to core operating grants that maintain the quality of education

  • Dedicated, long-term investments to address the backlog of deferred maintenance and reduce the overall debt-load needed to maintain safety and quality of existing infrastructure

  • Committed investment to “Lights On Funding” for any ongoing and upcoming projects at the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of Lethbridge, Mount Royal University, and MacEwan University
