Ever since the 2008 election we have been looking for changes to Alberta’s Elections Act to make it easier for students to vote. You can read about those changes here but even though we haven’t been successful yet we were hoping that changes or no changes, the reports of students being unable to obtain a ballot would be far and few between. Sadly that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Something needs to be done – it is not healthy for us to continue to make it more difficult for students to vote than other people in our community.
Call Elections Alberta at (780) 427-7191 and email them at firstname.lastname@example.org and let them know that you think that students should be able to vote in the communities where they are studying. As well, if you are a student that had any trouble obtaining a ballot on Monday please let us know so you can help us advocate for change before the 2016 election.
